Headaches are one of the most common forms of pain and many people suffer from them. In fact, headaches are one of the most common physical complaints that prompt people to either treat themselves (usually through over-the-counter medicine) or seek medical attention. Headaches may result from any number of factors including tension, digestive problems, lack of water, vascular problems, withdrawal from certain medications or injury.
Headaches fall into three main categories: tension-type, migraine and cervicogenic. Acupuncture is effective in treating a variety of different headache and migraine types including tension headaches, cluster headaches, post-traumatic headaches and disease-related headaches that might be due to sinus problems, high blood pressure, or sleeping disorders. Even for more severe migraine types of headaches, acupuncture can have a strong relief effect.
